I am using not only secure login (that is default, as you said) but also secure connection (you know, I have the secure icon at the bottom right of my Firefox while I'm reading my mail). And I also chat, and when I click on the pop-out button I get the window out and the window title is "https://mail.google.com/mail - My friends name". That chat window also has the secure icon on it (you know, the closed lock).

Google _always_ use a secure login. It doesn't matter if you enter https://mail.google.com or http://mail.google.com.

But after being logged in, you will by default _not_ use a secure connection. That's the part that CustomizeGoogle solves.

Yes, but if you don't use CustomizeGoogle and you enter https://mail.google.com/mail/ to log in you can use the chat. I think the problem is the redirection.
